Master "K", a rising star in the wonderful and beautiful world of oriental bondage, started out as a -very- private nawashi. Now the master's work is appearing on more and more web sites and in magazine's around the globe.
Most excitingly he has just published The Art of Shibari from SECRET Publishing. This beautiful Art book (one of the first on this subject in English and German) covers the history of shibari, its origins and terms, has several how-to's and is sumptuously illustrated with over 60 beautiful photographs, many full page and in color.
No longer can we call him "private", a better suited name is "selective" since the venues he contributes to are thoroughly scanned for their sincerity about the art of shibari.
Master "K" has put considerable time and effort in compiling a Glossary of shibari terms that he kindly made available for use on R.A.R.E (RopeMarks Artistic Rope Exchange).
Other notable contributions of Master "K" can be found on:
| RopeMarks | (Netherlands) | A number of photo series, see below |
| Fetish Japan | (Japan) | Writing, shibari study work and a number of photo series |
| Kikkou | (Japan) | His bio, a photo gallery of his work and a piece about the legendary 19th/20th century artist and rope master, Ito |
| Bondage Project | (Germany) | A number of photo series. |
| Immortal Shibari | (Brazil) | A small gallery and a tutorial. |
| Secret Magazine #20 | (Belgium) | An informative piece on the history of shibari and a photo gallery. |
Please enjoy the work of selective nawashi Master "K".

Hello friends of RopeMarks! This is Master "K".
I live and work in Los Angeles, California where I've studied and taught shibari for more than 30 years. My goal has always been to try to achieve Kinbaku-bi, the beauty of shibari art. For me a lovely partner is like a canvas, the rope my paint and brush and their pleasure and safety my chief concern.
My passion and my discipline is classical kinbaku and many of the ties shown here have been in existence in Japan for 100s of years. They are both history and, hopefully, something more dramatic, aesthetic and immediate. When photographing them I try to find a balance between the beautiful image and the personal response of the model.
I believe that shibari, to be an Art, is the giving of pleasure, consensually, erotically, intellectually and artistically to those that would truly enjoy such pleasures and in my own work as a nawashi (rope artist), teacher and photographer I have learned to follow four simple rules:
- To only work with subjects and/or models who seriously enjoy the art/experience.
- To treat the nawa (rope) with the greatest respect and never to forget the vital element of safety.
- To appreciate the experience of doing shibari and not just the result.
- To try to create beauty with both rope and camera.
I publish my photographs very seldom but it is an honor to be included on so attractive a site dedicated to this fascinating art form. I hope you enjoy my work.
